Camauro in Dark Blue Color

I visited the PRADO museum in Madrid last Saturday and saw the painting
from

The third person from right is Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros.
He was painted by Rosales wearing a camauro in dark blue color.
Why? I will figure it out.
Or maybe one of my esteemed readers knows the answer?

  1. Dear Mr Phillipi,
I think it possibly concerns him being grand inquisitor. Many years ago I heard or read that the inquisitor wore a blue stone in his ring - hence possibly the all blue apparel? But I am afraid I don't have a source for this. Thank you also for the recently provided patterns for the skullcaps, very much appreciated.
    Feofan.
